Micah House Volunteers – Wagga NSW
Micah House is an immediate needs house where clients can access referral information, enjoy company reducing social isolation, have a hot meal, shower, do laundry, engage in recreational activities, have a coffee or cold drink, and be welcomed by caring, supportive staff who can assist them during their time of need.
As a volunteer you can experience a number of different roles including cooking, reception duties, craft activities or just a friendly ear to listen and support people experiencing some type of hardship.
Volunteers must be non judgmental and willing to undertake training in Manual handling, WHS and food handling in addition to a police check.
Our volunteers work one day per fortnight in the kitchen and reception areas and must abide by the St Vincent de Paul Code of Conduct and are expected to treat all our clients in line with the societies philosophies’ and mission. You will start on call as emergency and as opportunities open, specific days will become available.
Kitchen work can be tiresome, therefore fitness is left to the discretion of the volunteer and personal capabilities. All skills will be considered, if you feel you may have a skill other than cooking or reception skills for eg. Computer skills, craft activities, music, beauty etc we welcome you to inform staff. We are always looking for new ways to engage and assist our clients to feel less excluded in the general community due to health issues or stigma surrounding mental health issues.
