Lexi

Michelle’s Story – Women’s and Children’s Hospital

My journey with the Women’s and Children’s Hospital began in 2007 with the birth of my beautiful daughter Lexi.

Soon after Lexi was born, she was found to have a birth defect Trachea-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF), Oesophageal Atresia (OA) a condition that results in her being born unable to swallow, which effects 1-3500 births.

In less than 24 hours, Lexi was taken to WCH and underwent lifesaving surgery. As Lexi’s oesophagus was not formed correctly with the top half ending in a blind pouch, much like a water balloon, and the bottom half attaching itself onto her windpipe, she needed urgent surgery otherwise she wouldn’t be here with us today.

Since then, Lexi has relied heavily on the support of the WCH team with over 1000 hours spent on emergency visits and admissions, as well as going through two major surgeries, more than ten day-surgery admissions, x-rays and countless follow up appointments.

Therefore, it warms my heart to know that Beyond Bank is supporting such a meaningful place that’s given my family so much medical intervention and care. I would love to encourage everyone to help us with the Easter Appeal, as it is such a deserving cause which helps so many families, like ours, in need.

You can support the Hospital by donating to the TeamKids Beyond Bank Easter Appeal.
