King Fred’s Pageant experience

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant Royal Family has been a tradition for over 70 years and this year I have the honour and privilege to represent the Royal Family as the Christmas Pageant King.

I was selected from a group of Princesses and Princes nominated by the four major sponsors of the Pageant: Beyond Bank Australia, Police Credit Union, Peoples Choice and Credit Union SA. Together we have the responsibly of upholding the mutual sector’s core value of giving back to the community.

Our first Royal commitment was unveiling the mini float winner at Stardust Castle. The beautiful float ‘Get Well Soon’ was designed with all the sick children in mind who can’t make it to the Pageant or those who spend Christmas unwell. Queen Eliza and I had so much fun guiding the children from St Michael’s Lutheran around Stardust Castle and sharing the magic of the Pageant.

Next up, we all laced up our sneakers for a photo shoot with the Sunday Mail, ahead of the Sunday Mail City-Bay Fun Run. We had a great day running along the Torrens River, where two of the princesses had a hilarious encounter with a couple of very inquisitive pelicans.

King Fred burgerOne of my favourite outings as the King was the tasting of a 450-calorie Royal Burger at the Kings Head on King William Street. Former RAF chef Gareth Matheson revealed Prince William’s Hamburger and it was up to me to score the meal out of 20. I gave the burger a solid 16 out of 20.

As part of our Royal duties, the royal family visited over 15 schools in the Northern, Southern and regional areas of South Australia, to perform a special performance for teachers and students. Along the way we stopped off at some of South Australia’s favourite destinations including the Bella Lavender Farm and a quick pit stop at The Big Orange in Berri.

During our Riverland tour we had the pleasure of participating in an arts and craft session with the children from the Riverland Special School. It is a moment that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Next up the Royal Family are getting excited for the big day on November 14. We have been practicing our royal waves and we are ready to share the magic on Pageant day!
