The gift that keeps on giving
Each August, to mark National Homelessness Prevention Week, Hutt St Centre holds their walk a mile in my boots events to raise awareness and funds in support of people experiencing homelessness in South Australia. To encourage walkers to fundraise, Beyond Bank donated a $500 Community Reward Account to the highest individual fundraiser.
This year Paul Kirchner from Hutt St Centre’s Foundation raised the highest amount of funds with a total of $11,987.50! Paul was very appreciative of the prize but felt it should go to a student who had gone the Extra Mile!
So as a result he re-awarded this account to Charlie. Charlie is a student and has participated in the walk for the last two years. This year he was the highest fundraising student with a total of $3,105. Charlie also walked an extra 30 miles from Willunga to Hutt St Centre to raise extra funds and awareness to support South Australia’s homeless. As if that wasn’t enough… he also got his fellow classmates to walk in McLaren Vale with him. Now that’s what we call going the Extra Mile!
Congratulations to Paul and Charlie, what an incredible achievement from you both! In 2015 6,585 people walked at the Adelaide, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley events as well as at their school. That’s one person walking a mile in the boots of the 6,000 people who are homeless in South Australia each year, because no person who is homeless should feel like they’re walking alone.
Beyond Bank Australia is proud major sponsor of Hutt St Centre’s walk a mile in my boots.
