Kalinda School Grant
On Monday 23rd May the Beyond Bank Foundation provided a $10,000 grant to Kalinda School which will enable them to purchase a number of LCD Interactive Panels. Below we hear from Acting Principal of Kalinda School, Bel Wallace, about how the grant and further fundraising will assist the school.
Kalinda School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) that caters for 42 wonderful students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. Students from Kindergarten through to year 12 attend the school 5 days per week and are supported to grow and achieve to their full potential.
Located in the heart of Griffith, in a purpose built facility, students are given every opportunity to excel in all areas of school life. Our students participate in academic, sporting and extra-curricular activities that are supported and modified to meet each student’s individual needs. Our Teachers and School Learning Support Officers are passionate about offering a wide range of experiences and opportunities to all students, and are developing a range of technology-based supports to encourage communication and social skill development.
Staff are exploring tools such as ‘video self-modelling’ and assistive communication devices such as eye-gaze technology and iPad apps to develop an exceptional level of inclusivity for all students. Participation in learning is the driving force for our staff, and the results are seen every day in our student’s achievements.
This grant will support our school in ensuring we have the hardware that we need to fully implement these strategies into each and every class. Hardware such as Interactive LCD Panels, eye gaze sensors and related software will be installed in each classroom, ensuring that all students are able to communicate and learn to their full potential.
We are aiming to fundraise a total of $40,000 to provide these resources for our students. We appreciate the generous donation of $10,000 from Beyond Bank and look forward to commencing this exciting venture.
Beyond Bank will be launching a community fundraising appeal to help raise the additional funds required for the purchase of 5 LCD Interactive Smart Boards for the students at Kalinda. Our fundraising target is $30,000, so please help support Kalinda School by making a donation to the appeal at one of our branches in Griffith or Leeton.
