Whyalla Car Club – ADCCSA State Titles
The first round of the 2016 ADCCSA State Titles were held in Whyalla over two days of the June long weekend. For the uninitiated, the abbreviation of ADCCSA stands for Associated Dirt Circuit Clubs of SA.
Dirt Circuit racing had its origins in Whyalla and the club was formed in 1974. The Whyalla club is universally recognised as being the pioneer in promoting the sport in the Northern & Western regions of SA.
The Association has consolidated with nine member clubs, comprising of Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Black Rock, Roxby Downs, Port Augusta, West Coast, Arno Bay and Ceduna Dirt Circuit Club.
With the Dirt Circuit racing family established in such a large geographical area, the challenge for all individuals involved is to continue to provide a safe and enjoyable sport that remains within the financial reach of all who wish to participate.
Over one hundred nominations were received for the various classes, and the competitive racing was no place for the faint of heart.
To assist our local community banking partner, Beyond Bank staff volunteered to work on the BBQ situated ‘in the pits’ on the second day of competition.
The layout of the track and amenities resulted in Community Development Manager John Hunt and his committed team of Kelly Hyslop and Michelle Ryan having their backs to the action on the track, which did cause the odd moment of unease, as the thunderous roar of engines and clashing of metal was literally only metres away.
Mind you, the ladies who are ‘revheads’ in their own right, did appear a tad more comfortable than yours truly!
The Beyond Bank BBQ grossed over $500 for the benefit of the Whyalla Car Club, and gate, canteen and bar takings were significantly higher than that.
A great weekend of racing superbly organised and coordinated by club members and supporters.
