Hitting the right pitch at Beyond Bank Pitchfest
Start ups have become a real movement around Australia as the nation embraces new and emerging industries.
There are entrepreneurs everywhere, in cities and country towns and many of them are working out of garages, on the kitchen table, in a co-working space, you name it.
Most importantly though, it’s an exciting time for Australians who have a great business idea and just need the right forum to turn these dreams into reality.
Beyond Bank Australia is committed to backing start ups as we see it as a great way to work with and in the community and as a customer owned bank, that’s what we are all about.
A great example of this commitment came last week with the inaugural Beyond Bank Pitchfest at Wagga Wagga.
Kooringal High School student Michael Nixon saw off a strong field of finalists to claim victory.
13 year old Michael amazed the panel of five industry judges with his EduKits concept which uses electronics and 3D printing to provide a unique learning tool in the home or classroom.
Pitching his idea in front of an audience of more than 150 people, Michael demonstrated knowledge and experience far beyond his years and incredibly, despite being just 13, EduKits is already his second business concept!
Michael received a total of $7500 in prize money!
Event founder Dianna Somerville said she was overwhelmed by the dedication of the finalists and grateful to be able to provide a platform for them to pitch their ideas.
“I know this is the start of an amazing journey with an inspirational group of regional entrepreneurs,” Somerville said.
And of course, here at Beyond Bank, we are delighted with the success of this unique event.
“Beyond Bank Australia is always keen to get behind local initiatives that support the community and when we heard about Pitchfest, we couldn’t wait to get involved,” said Peter Rutter, General Manager, Community Development.
“Supporting start ups and fresh business ideas is what is going to make Australia and particularly our regions strong and resilient.
“Seeing today’s innovators turn into tomorrow’s entrepreneurs is going to be very exciting and I congratulate Pitchfest on an outstanding concept.”
