2017 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year

Beyond Bank has been proud to sponsor the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards for more than 20 years.

The Awards recognise individuals and groups of young people aged between 12 and 25 years who have made a significant contribution through their personal endeavours, or who have been actively involved in the ACT community across the following six categories.

A bit about our Young Canberra Citizen of the Year – Mustafa Ehsan

Mustafa arrived in Canberra in 2012 as an unaccompanied minor refugee to flea persecution as a young Hazara person in Iran. Since arriving in Canberra, he has completed his school and has gone on to establish and coach the Canberra Kangaroo Football (soccer) team.

Mustafa is a strong advocate and key supporter of young refugees and asylum seekers in Canberra and by using football as a means to support social inclusion and cohesion. He has been a consistent, reliable, and passionate mentor and driver to promote well being and social connection for young people in the Canberra community.
