Leading South Australian social enterprise Phoenix Society , that employs almost 500 people with disabilities, has launched a campaign ‘The Heat is On’ to raise $40,000 to be used to install much needed heating for 50 staff at their Shiell Street, Whyalla work area.
Phoenix Chief Executive Mr Paul Stevenson said this was a great opportunity for Phoenix employees to access an improved work experience.
“Every person with a disability aspires to participate in work and the life of the community. We are creating better conditions for tasks that require increasing levels of concentration and efficiency. This enables us to create opportunities that provide new skill sets for some of our people,” he said.
Mr Stevenson said forging strong partnerships with the Whyalla community and local businesses was an important step forward in Phoenix’s growth plan.
“Phoenix is a cost effective, professional and reliable partner for any business large or small and we have begun a major capital investment program to upgrade our facilities and make us even more business-friendly. Our focus is to provide greater economies of scale for businesses seeking to outsource work, even better services and more meaningful employment, support and training for people with a disability.
“Working with Beyond Bank on the campaign to raise funds ticks all these boxes and we couldn’t be happier to have this partnership,” said Mr Stevenson.
Local businesses have stepped up to the plate with a generous response to this urgent need. The generous lead provided by Beyond Bank has inspired wonderful support from Westland Hotel, Whyalla Office Choice, Harsco Metals, Harcourts Whyalla and Career Employment Group.
Beyond Bank’s General Manager – Community Development, Peter Rutter explained the new partnership with Phoenix was the perfect match to get the community involved in this project.
“It’s great to be able to engage with people living with a disability and add our support to their already incredible efforts to minimize the impact of their disability. Phoenix is service oriented; quality assured and has the labour force capabilities that gave us the confidence they were the perfect partner for us to work with on this project,” said Mr Rutter.
