There seems more events every year in support of many different causes. But rather than dilute the interest in each of these events the opposite is true, bringing awareness, funding and the community together. Prior to registering for the Beyond Bank MS Night Ride I had very little knowledge of MS but by becoming involved in this ride I became more aware of the disease and the challenge faced to understand more about what causes it and to find a cure.
The opportunity to take part in the Beyond Bank Ride for MS was something I didn`t want to miss out on. I`ve been living in Kalgoorlie for 2 ½ years and I am a passionate cyclist. I have always been a keen cyclist but this passion has grown since moving to Kalgoorlie and being part of the Eastern Goldfields Cycle Club. This, like most sporting clubs in regional areas, is an integral part of life bringing people together with a similar interest which results in friendships being made.
The MS Night Ride was a great chance to ride with colleagues and other participants around the Swan and Canning river under the stars. Although, on the night, we were lucky that it was dry after lots of rain earlier that day. Despite being cloudy, it was more than made up for with a good turn out and fun as we made our way around the course. A trail of flashing rear red lights from each bike guided us around some beautiful waterfront scenery. Riders looked out for each other with words of encouragement and by calling out and signalling as we came upon an obstacle, it was great ride for all level of cyclists.
It’s a ride I look forward to completing again in the future.
