Did you know that Homelessness Prevention Week is 3-9 August? A week which aims to raise the awareness of and assist to provide solutions to homelessness in Australia, specifically Western Australia.
Shelter WA is the peak body for social and affordable housing in Western Australia and is also committed to the elimination of homelessness across the state.
Shelter WA are calling for volunteers to be arranged in small teams and stationed at each of the Homelessness Prevention Week public exhibitions which will be held at the Central Park building on Monday 3rd August, 4 – 7 August at Murray Street and from 3 – 7 August at the Perth Cultural Centre. These exhibitions will display a car with manikins demonstrating the conditions in which people experiencing homelessness live daily.
Principally, volunteers will:
· Be a source of information relating on homelessness in Western Australia and how the community can step up to prevent homelessness
· Distribute HPW materials
· Engage in dialogue with the community to raise awareness and potentially influence change
Shelter WA is proposing to have two volunteers stationed at each car at all times, working on a roster basis. Rosters will be from 8am – 12pm and from 12pm to 4pm. Volunteers are also encouraged to apply for as many sgifts as desired!
