Beyond Bank’s own Magic Elf

As a born and bred South Australian I have always had a keen interest in the Credit Union Christmas Pageant. Joining Beyond Bank in 2002 gave me the opportunity to be involved in the Pageant in many ways.

I was first involved in the Pageant walking with Ye Olde Pageant Tram. It was a great experience to share this special occasion with so many excited fellow South Australians.

I followed that with Boo Hoo the clown and then the Swagman float. I was the swagman and the officer and I had so much fun with this float that I thought that I should try clowning.

The next year I was back again as a clown, with polystyrene barbells (they were a bit of a challenge) and I have been a clown ever since!

In the meantime I offered to participate in other ways. I have volunteered as an Elf at Stardust Castle and at media launches and various promotions. I do enjoy helping in September and I am busy painting, repairing and maintaining floats for that special day in November

There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes to make the Pageant happen each year. For example in 2014 there were147 moving sets including 255 clowns, 63 floats and 17 bands plus 9 walking sets, ten dance groups, one DJ and three choirs. This is a far cry from the first Pageant in 1933 which had had eight floats and four bands.

With only 2 sleeps until my next visit to Stardust Castle, I am excited to get a unique sneak peek into this year’s floats.

The Pageant relies heavily on volunteers and it is always a pleasure to give back to the Pageant for all the enjoyment that not only I, but everyone else receives. To be involved in a minor way preparing floats for the big day is a great honour. I always look forward to helping where I can.
