Community Hub – Port Lincoln
On Wednesday 29th October our local Port Lincoln board room played host to two like minded community groups.
Who were they?
Whyalla Pink Spirits (WPS) are a support group for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and their family and friends. They offer face to face support as needed and also coordinate a network of social events for fun, frivolity and as a fundraising arm for their ongoing sustainability.
And as a part of their natural growth, they have had the vision and foresight to launch a wig library, ‘Hair to Help’, the only service of its type in the region where sufferers can loan a wig for a just $25.
This has been the inspiration for the launch of a similar library in the Riverland and now Port Lincoln.
Port Lincoln Wig Library (PLWL) are a recently created volunteer group aiming to provide options and support for community members experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment and other medical conditions.
Due to both groups having a relationship with Beyond Bank Australia we were able to provide the vehicle (literally) and the meeting space (physical hub) to bring them together.
Two of the Whyalla Pink Spirits Executive team, namely President Rae Williams and Secretary Marie Woodfield, made the day trip with our Community Development Manager John Hunt to sit with the members of the Port Lincoln Wig Library.
WPS were very gracious in the information sharing session and more than willing to share their knowledge with the eager PLWL ladies.
Whilst the above photo displays a serious side to the meeting, rest assured there were plenty of laughs and joy shared by all.
A great day where plenty was gained by all involved, another wonderful example of ‘creating more good together’.
