Road Raise finish line

Road Raise achieves their goal!

Congratulations to the thirteen riders who have completed the gruelling DBH Road Raise ride from Adelaide to Melbourne to support CanTeen and its work helping young people affected by cancer.

The 6 day, 970 kilometre ride left Adelaide last Sunday, October 11 and arrived in Melbourne Friday afternoon.

Among the group was Deputy Chairman of Beyond Bank Australia’s Board, Steve Nolis and National Community Development Manager, Shane Farley.

The pair battled harsh conditions and extreme weather for most of the way.

Through South Australia’s Coorong, they reported strong winds and 2 degree temperatures which left ice on their bike helmets.

Later in the week, around Warrnambool in Western Victoria the peloton endured scorching heat and ferocious head winds which made riding incredibly uncomfortable.

Despite the often appalling conditions, Steve said it was one of the most memorable experiences of his life and he was overwhelmed by the generosity and well wishes the group received at every town along the way.

And when exhaustion hit the riders and motivation was tough, they were inspired by the personal stories of CanTeen members Mark and Cass who gave emotional and uplifting speeches about their private battles with cancer in their families.

With an original fund raising target of $100,000, the cyclists have smashed that, raising more than $130,000!

A heartfelt congratulations from everyone at Beyond Bank Australia for a simply magnificent effort. It is a fantastic demonstration of all that we value at Beyond Bank and we thank Steve and Shane for letting us share some of the photos from what was a life changing trip.
