Peter Cursley

Congratulations to the ACT Australian of the Year!

Beyond Bank congratulates Peter Cursley from our community partner, the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation, on being named the 2016 ACT Local Hero at the ACT Australian of the Year Awards.

Since its establishment, the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation has raised $4 million to help babies and their families.

Through Peter’s hard work and dedication, vital equipment – from breast pumps and recliner chairs for nursing mums to state-of-the-art medical equipment – has been purchased for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Canberra Hospital.

The Foundation also contributes to nurse education and training to ensure staff remains at the cutting-edge of neonatal care. NICU cares for around 700 babies each year, with 40% coming from New South Wales.

Beyond Bank has been proud to assist the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation with its important work. According to the 2016 ACT Local Hero, this help has been exceptionally valuable.

“Beyond Bank have run campaigns throughout their branches to raise funds for equipment for us, like a baby eye laser we were able to purchase that helps prevent blindness in premature babies,” Peter said. “These campaigns have raised the profile of our Foundation and helped increase community support.”

“For a small charity like us, having the support of an organisation like Beyond Bank is vital to our success.”

Congratulations Peter on your much-deserved recognition!
