It might be a little difficult to recognise this famous face on Pageant morning but there’ll be no mistaking the enthusiasm and energy of Adelaide personality, Jane Reilly.
Jane has been involved with the Credit Union Christmas Pageant over many years and in 2015, she will don the clown costume yet again and she is as excited as ever:
“I’ve always loved the Pageant!
I can remember as a child on Pageant Day waiting with my family for the Big Parade to start, I was so excited that I would shiver and tingle and almost forget to breathe.
Desperately I tried to stay behind the blue honour line, but as I impatiently waited on King William Street somehow my tiny toes would creep forward as I peered down the street wanting to be the first child to call out “here comes the Pageant”
As an adult I loved doing the live TV broadcast for Channel Ten and the ABC TV.
My screams of delight when Father Christmas arrived at the Magic Cave almost ruptured ear drums!
As a commentator I learnt a lot from the late Broadcaster Ron Sullivan. Ron told me to imagine that I had a small child sitting on my lap and that was who I was to explain the colourful parade to.
I have wonderful memories as a parent taking my little boys down to the secret place where the pageant was created and having the most wonderful time looking at the floats and costumes close up.
This was how I prepared for the big day, I was able to take in all the magical details.
In recent years I’ve been lucky to take part in the Big Day, usually as a clown which is so much fun.
The walk, run and skip from South Terrace to North Terrace is over all too quickly.
I’ve made new friends and loved seeing from a new aspect the joy that this very special gift brings to so many South Australians.”
