Whyalla Fun Run

Beyond Bank Australia Day Fun Run 2016

The Australia Day fun run/walk was held on Tuesday morning, Australia Day.

We keep saying this every year, and once again it is great to announce a record number of 470 entrants participated, a massive twenty percent increase on last years record numbers.

The course which started and finished at Ada Ryan Gardens, followed a similar path as in previous years and was selected to make maximum use of the shaded footpaths and drink stations on course to ensure the safety of all participants.

Event organisers the Whyalla Harriers were delighted with the turnout with serious runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities having an equal chance of winning the many random prizes on offer after crossing the finish line.

With Beyond Bank sponsorship and other Whyalla businesses, there were prizes and vouchers to winners in their respective divisions. The overall winner Orla Timmins led from go to whoa in a time of 18 minutes 23 seconds. The diminutive female runner is seen leading the pack in our picture.

Aaron Ledington was our first Beyond Bank representative to cross the line in 11th position. Close look at our picture shows Aaron (Beyond Bank cap) has his eyes trained on to the eventual winner right from the start but that was as close as he got!

Whyalla Harriers ACCA Inc appreciated the three volunteers from Beyond Bank who assisted with registrations. April Hughes also entered the 5k walk and during the course of the event found herself assisting a competitor who required medical attention. An eventful day for April with no time concessions applied to her finishing position. John Hunt and Sharon Elvin chose to stay in the relative comfort of the Beyond Bank marquee!

The day was a magnificent forerunner to the Australia Day celebrations on the foreshore, and more importantly a great success for the Whyalla Harriers who will donate funds raised in the vicinity of $1,500 to SIDS and Kids – Whyalla Branch.
