Twenty years as part of the Glendale community
“We have a very loyal base of life members and it has been a privilege to have them as customers at our Glendale Branch for two decades,” Beyond Bank Senior Relationship Advisor, Karen Blundell said.
Karen has been part of the team at the Glendale Branch for 18 years and is now helping the children and grandchildren of some of the branch’s earliest customers.
“While there might have been a name change to Beyond Bank and banking has gone through some rather significant changes in the last 20 years, such as the introduction of online services, what hasn’t changed is how much our staff love helping members – through the good times and the bad. We help them buy their first home, implement a savings plan in order to get ahead, or extend their house as their family grows.
“We might be a modern bank, offering modern products, but I am proud we are just a bit old-fashioned when it comes to providing excellent customer service.”
Helping the community is at the heart of what Beyond Bank Australia does. “Beyond Bank is 100% owned by its customers and we use our profits to benefit them and their communities,” Beyond Bank Executive, Ray O’Brien explained.
In the Lake Macquarie region, Beyond Bank supports a range of local community organisations including Mai-Wel, Landcare and Relay for Life. It helps by providing volunteers for events, raising funds and providing banking products specifically for the not-for-profit sector.
“All the not-for-profit groups we work with are committed to making life better for the people of Lake Macquarie,” Ray praised. “Mai-Wel for example, creates and delivers vibrant, innovative services and successful businesses which provide opportunities for people with a disability to achieve their dreams and goals for life.”
Beyond Bank Australia is a Foundation Partner with DaSH Co-Work, an initiative of Dantia, the economic development committee of Lake Macquarie Council. The DaSH Co-Work space is designed to create jobs and investment by encouraging entrepreneurship in the region and is due to open in Charlestown in early April.
DaSH Co-Work is projected to deliver in excess of 30 new jobs in the region and significantly increase Lake Macquarie’s economy. The office hub will be a hi-tech home for entrepreneurs and will provide affordable office space to help manage their business and expense challenges.
“We are excited about the possibilities the partnership with DaSH Co-Work space will provide for the region. The entrepreneurs who will share this space are our future leaders, and this purpose-built environment will provide the perfect location for them to share ideas and partner with like-minded individuals.”
Beyond Bank has enjoyed being part of the Stockdale Glendale Shopping Centre’s twenty-year history and looks forward to being a part of its future.
“In fact I celebrate this milestone in a very special way myself,” Ray said. “When I first joined the bank, my first official function was to attend the opening of our branch at Stockland Glendale Shopping Centre.”.
