Our Deputy CEO shows flair with the footy
This week’s Community Partnership launch with the Fremantle Football Club revealed many interesting facts but none could rival the hidden talent exhibited by our Deputy CEO Wayne Matters during an impromptu handball challenge.
Wayne who admits to playing some football in his younger days showed the crowd his extraordinary ability in a thrilling contest against rising Fremantle star, Lachie Neale.
In a “best of five” competition, judged by the Dockers’ champion mid-fielder, Michael Barlow, Wayne quickly took the lead and failed to relinquish it.
Hitting the handball target time after time, Wayne later said he was happy to make himself available as a late selection in the forward pocket for Fremantle as it prepares to name its side to play the West Coast Eagles in Perth’s local Derby this Saturday afternoon.
“Funnily enough, the Fremantle coaches haven’t called me yet,” laughed Wayne.
“But stranger things have happened and there’s still time.”
Vanquished but still gallant in defeat, Lachie Neale said the Dockers are always on the lookout for emerging talent and while Wayne may struggle to get an AFL game this season, there’s always the veterans circuit!
Well done Wayne!
