Road Raise sets off on 8 October

Tomorrow morning, just after dawn, a band of brave and hardy cyclists will set off on a 1060km bike ride from Adelaide to Melbourne, raising money and awareness for CanTeen which supports young people affected by cancer.

Called “Road Raise”, the gruelling 7 day challenge has already donated more than a quarter of a million dollars to CanTeen in just two years.

Our National Community Development and Sponsorship Manager Shane Farley and Bank Board Member Steve Nolis will be among the peloton – indeed together with Shane’s wife (Jodi), the whole concept is their idea.

That’s why we were delighted to help these guys “Go Beyond” with bank branches across South Australia fundraising like crazy over the past 3 weeks.

We’ve been amazed at their creativity with sausage sizzles, raffles, collection pots, you name it, our staff have done it!

As of writing, $6000 has been raised and the Port Augusta branch in the State’s mid-north came out on top, amassing $1180 in just over a 3 weeks. Well done!

The reward for their efforts is a comprehensive morning tea personally delivered to the Branch by Shane and Steve once they’ve recovered.

What we do know is that suggestions that the pair ride to Port Augusta were quickly shut down by Shane who said that the 1000 km trip to Melbourne will probably be enough cycling for a while.

Good luck Shane and Steve. We are in awe of your commitment at making life better for the many young people touched by cancer.
