Celebrating National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteering Week, a time to reflect on and celebrate volunteers and the important contribution they make to our communities. This year’s National Volunteering Week theme, “Give a Little, Change a Lot”, highlights the power behind volunteering. Research from peak national volunteering organisation, Volunteering Australia, reports that 93% of volunteers saw positive changes as a result of their efforts. By helping to improve the wellbeing of others, volunteers ultimately improved their own sense of place in the world.

At Beyond Bank, we also seek to create positive change and value through working with community organisations. This is central to how we do business, and is an integral part of our organisations values. Each year our Beyond Bank staff are allocated two paid leave days to volunteer during business hours through our employee volunteering program. In addition, many of our staff go beyond this, dedicating hours of their own time to support the causes close to them.

Katrina from our People and Culture team volunteers regularly at the Adelaide Zoo. For Katrina volunteering provides balance in her life. “Every time I volunteer it makes me smile. It is a way to escape from the daily grind of work and life – to really give back. Knowing that I’ve made a positive impact is really uplifting”.

She recently travelled to China where she volunteered with the Giant Pandas, “this must have been the biggest smile of my life”.

We encourage you to share your volunteering stories this week on social media using the hashtag #NVW2018 .
