Caring for the carers.

Life takes all sorts of twists and turns and there is every chance that at some point, we may need someone to take care of us or, we might need to assume the role of carer.

Becoming a carer is a big step. Becoming a carer for someone with a disability is often an even bigger step, a step that brings with it many obstacles and challenges but also some heartwarming rewards and unexpected joys.

Many carers find the demands emotionally and physically draining as they often spend so much time attending to the needs of the person with a disability, that they neglect their own health and wellbeing.

Indeed, national data from both the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index found that 40% of carers are more likely to suffer a chronic health condition, ranging from anxiety and depression through to back and other muscular aches and pains than the rest of the community.

Add to that the sheer exhaustion of being constantly “on-call” and it is no wonder that carers often report feelings of being isolated, stressed and time-poor.

As part of its commitment to the community, Beyond Bank is focusing on the needs of those people living with a disability and also on the needs of those who care for them.

They are the unsung heroes of our community and deserve every bit of assistance and support.

We’re here to help.
