We’re a B Corp , we are part of a global movement to use our business as a force for good. It means, we make a conscious decision to impact positive change for our community.
One of our key business focus areas of change is housing affordability and supporting individuals and families to be able access crisis housing and support services.
In South Australia, a shortage of crisis accommodation and affordable housing means homeless parents and their children are often housed in motels creating dislocation from schools and support networks.
Turning Point program provides safe, stable short-term accommodation for homeless single parent families with young children.
The program has many stories of how it’s empowering people to find their own home. Evelyn is one such person, she was separated from her children, homeless and living in her car when she turned to AnglicareSA for help.
The program focuses on addressing the barriers and supports people to access stable and permanent housing.
Since going through the program, Evelyn is now living in her own home with her children. Evelyn has studied and has almost completed her training and placement at a major Hospital.
Since the program started in 2016, AnglicareSA has supported 54 families who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. These families consist of 177 people (65 adults and 122 children). All tenants commented on the relief of having a safe place to ‘stabilise’, engage supports and make decisions regarding their next steps.
All Turning Point tenants have experienced more than just ‘homelessness’, including Domestic and Family Violence, Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) addiction/recovery, chronic physical illness or mental illness.
Building stronger and better communities is part of our DNA and we are very aware of the need to find answers to the cycle of homelessness.
