Melanoma and the Hunter Melanoma Foundation

Are you melanoma-aware?

The facts around melanoma are confronting. Two in three Australians will develop some form of skin cancer during their lifetime. Melanoma is the most common cancer in the 15-39 age group, with one person dying from it every 5 hours.

In the Australian population, melanoma ranks as the third most common cancer. With such sobering statistics, it’s hard to believe that some Australians still don’t seem to be taking the warnings seriously. With more than 3.3 million Instagram posters still boasting about #tanning and tanning beds, it seems we still have a way to go to get the message across.

Beyond Bank has partnered with the Hunter Melanoma Foundation for several years, supporting their goal to reduce mortality rates from melanoma in the region, minimise patient suffering and maximise patient care. Being a customer-owned bank, we care about the things that affect our customers and communities.

Awareness is the best way to start lowering statistics around melanoma. In an Australian first, the Hunter Melanoma Foundation (HMF) recently launched a simple animated guide to help people check and protect their skin. Watch the video below, it could save your life!

We know that cancer doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care whether you are old or young like Victoria, who discovered at only 21 that a small spot on her foot was melanoma.

How you can help

Supporting the Hunter Melanoma Foundation helps them spread their message.  It also assists them to conduct vital research, provide education and create new tools like the virtual guide to help Australians perform their own skin examinations.

You can support the Hunter Melanoma Foundation simply by saving and without any cost to you.
