A team effort all ‘round'.

Cheering our kids on as they chase their dreams is one of life’s great joys and Beyond Bank was both honoured and privileged to help the Fenwick family celebrate an Olympic gold medal moment.

Rachel Fenwick qualified for the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi in March a global event that attracts some 7000 athletes from 170 nations.

Importantly too, it allows competitors with intellectual disabilities to show off their awesome talents on the world stage across 24 sports and with an audience estimated at more than a half a million.,

Rachel, represented Australia in bowling, as one of 105 athletes in the green and gold.

“I was so proud to represent Australia and I have made so many new friends.” Rachel said.

Naturally, Rachel’s mum, Sharon, wanted to see her daughter compete and, as a Beyond Bank member for nearly 20 years, she spoke to Michelle Wass our senior lending officer at Marion for help with a small loan to cover travel costs.

Safe to say, Michelle swung into action!

Meeting with Sharon and listening to her specific needs, she organized the loan that Sharon needed and not long after, Sharon and Caitlen, Rachel’s sister, were on their way to their seats in the grandstand in Abu Dhabi where, incredibly, she saw Rachel win medals of all three colours – gold, silver and bronze.

“Michelle was brilliant and considered my situation in every detail to make sure I could afford to travel.’ Sharon said. "It was unforgettable.”

It’s also a great way of living our B Corp motto which is all about ‘creating more good for the community’.

As a customer-owned bank, we look to improve the lives of our customers and communities by making banking good for all.  Sharing the celebrations with the Fenwick family is the icing on the cake!
