Stay cybersafe during the holidays.

Online Security

As the holidays approach and we’re busy grabbing bargains online, opportunistic cybercriminals are ready to take advantage of distracted shoppers.

Phishing is the most common type of cyberattack. Cybersecurity experts report seeing up to a 150 per cent spike in cases during the holiday season, specifically on the weekend before Christmas.

What is phishing?

Phishing is a way that cybercriminals trick you into giving them personal information.

They send you fraudulent emails or text messages often pretending to be from organisations you know or trust. They may try to steal your online banking logins, credit card details or passwords. Phishing can result in the loss of information, money or identity theft.

If you’ve been exposed in the Medibank, Optus or other data breaches, you’re likely to receive an increased amount of spam and phishing attempts, as cybercriminals can target you with more precision during a time when you’re expecting to receive offers from legitimate retailers.
